Day trip From Marrakech to Ait Ben Haddou UNESCO Site

Our day trip from Marrakech to Ait Benhaddou will start at 8:00 AM. We will drive towards Ait Benhaddou Kasbah which is at about 175 km from Marrakech. We will discover its history and its importance during historical times. It’s a very important historic site declared by UNESCO a World Heritage since 1987. It consists of houses built of mud and straw.

The Kasbah had a great importance from the XI th century until the beginning of the XXth century. It was a place of stops of the caravans which come from Marrakech via Telouet and that were directed towards the North of the country. The Kasbah is a cinematographic site and it was the scene of many legendary films like Gladiator, the Mummy, Lawrence of Arabia, etc… The guided tour with a local guide allows you to discover the details of its history and its importance. We will return to Marrakech at 6:00 PM.

Why Ait Ben Haddou is a must visit site ?

Ait Ben Haddou is a fortified village situated along the former caravan route between the Sahara and Marrakech in present-day Morocco. This iconic ksar, or a group of earthen buildings surrounded by high walls, has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1987. With its striking architecture and well-preserved kasbah, Ait Ben Haddou is considered one of the most impressive examples of Moroccan earthen clay architecture and has served as a filming location for many movies and TV shows.

Day trip Marrakech to Ait Ben Haddou program :

• Departure from Marrakech: 8:00 AM
• Stop at Tizi n’Tichka, a high mountain pass in the High Atlas mountains offering panoramic views over the mountains and valleys below.
• Arrival at Ait Ben Haddou: 11:30 AM – Guided tour of the ksar and kasbah, learning about the history, architecture, and way of life. (medieval, fortifications, earthen clay) – Free time to explore the winding streets and soak in the atmosphere. Don’t miss photo opportunities framed by the iconic clay buildings. (photography) –
• Optional: Visit a traditional Berber house for mint tea and to learn about local customs. (cultural immersion) Lunch: 1:30 PM at a local restaurant overlooking Ait Ben Haddou, savoring authentic Moroccan cuisine.
• Departure from Ait Ben Haddou: 3:00 PM
• Arrival at Marrakech at about 6: PM.
